Hydrangea Care

Our most beloved flower is back—the hydrangea! At Daily Flowers, we absolutely adore this flower. Its size and beautiful colors give every bouquet an exclusive, luxurious look! And with the right care, hydrangeas are a cut flower that can last for a very long time.

Hydrangea Care Plan

  1. Clean the vase thoroughly!
Use bleach and a brush to clean the vase. This step is essential for all cut flowers. If your vase isn’t properly cleaned, your hydrangea bouquet will wilt much faster.

  2. Rinse the vase well after cleaning!
Once rinsed, you can be sure the vase is clean. Next, remove the bottom leaves from your hydrangeas. Any leaves left in the water can shorten the lifespan of the flower.

  3. Fill the vase with hot tap water!
Hydrangeas prefer hot water. We include a special sachet of shrub food with our hydrangeas—this is different from regular cut flower food! Add the sachet to the water and stir well to dissolve the nutrients completely.

  4. Trim the stem!
Cut a small piece (a few centimeters) from the bottom of the stem.

  5. Change the water every few days.
When you refresh the water, be sure to trim the hydrangea stems again to keep them healthy and vibrant.

What NOT to Do with Hydrangeas

To maximize the life of your hydrangeas, avoid placing them in:

  • Direct sunlight
  • Near heat sources
  • Drafty areas
  • Close to a fruit bowl (as ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to wilt faster).

Follow these tips, and you can enjoy the beauty of hydrangeas for an extended time!
