Why a florist sells artificial flowers

It is a fair question. We work with fresh stems every day, so artificial flowers only earn their place where fresh ones cannot go. A shelf too high to reach with a watering can. A hallway with no daylight. A holiday home that stands empty for weeks. An office that nobody visits on Fridays.

Used there, a good artificial stem is not a compromise. Used on a dinner table where fresh flowers would thrive, it always is. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong thing.

How to tell a good artificial flower from a cheap one

Look at the petal edge first. On cheap stems it is cut clean and identical on every flower. On good ones the edge varies, curls slightly, and carries a hint of colour change towards the tip, the way a real petal fades.

Then feel the material. Real touch latex has give and a faint warmth. Printed polyester feels flat and cool. Finally, check the stem: a wire that holds a bend without springing back lets you shape an arrangement instead of accepting the one it came in.

Price follows those three things almost exactly. If a stem is cheap, one of them has been skipped.

If you want something real that still lasts

Most people looking for artificial flowers actually want one thing: flowers that do not need replacing every week. There are two better answers to that than plastic.
