Winter is the season people underestimate. The light is low, the days are short, and a bouquet on the table does more work than it does in June. Ours are tied by hand in Amsterdam from stems bought that morning.

Which flowers bloom in winter?

Amaryllis, hellebore, hyacinth, anemone, ranunculus and tulip. Those six carry the Dutch winter, and all of them come from growers here rather than from a plane.

Amaryllis is the one that surprises people: a single stem, one heavy head, and it holds for two weeks. Hellebore flowers in the cold and looks delicate while being anything but. Hyacinth brings scent into a closed house, which matters more in January than in May. Anemone and ranunculus arrive towards the end of winter and carry the first real colour of the year.

Keeping winter flowers alive indoors

Heating is the enemy, not the cold. A radiator under the vase halves the life of a bouquet. Keep it away from that, away from a fruit bowl, and out of direct draught from a door.

Use cool water rather than lukewarm, cut two centimetres off the stems at an angle every three days, and refresh the water at the same time. Flowers that arrive chilled from the van want an hour to come to room temperature before you arrange them.

Ordering and delivery

We deliver Monday to Friday in the Netherlands, Flanders and Brussels. Orders placed before 09:00 arrive the same day. Shipping is EUR 7,00 in the Netherlands and we drop it from EUR 50. In Flanders and Brussels it is EUR 9,95, dropped from EUR 75.

At weekends our own couriers take over and the cut-off moves to 10:00. Around Amsterdam and Utrecht we charge nothing, elsewhere in the Randstad it is EUR 9,95. Every bouquet carries a handwritten card. See also our most ordered bouquets.
