Everyone is familiar with flowers. Whether they’re blooming in a garden or arranged in a beautiful bouquet, they bring life and joy wherever they are. However, it’s noticeable that flowers in the Netherlands don’t grow year-round, yet there’s a wide variety available in bouquets throughout the year. To give you a unique insight into how a flower ultimately ends up in a bouquet, we’d love to take you on the journey of the flower.

It Starts Close to Home—or Far Away

Many types of flowers are grown in Dutch greenhouses. In these large glass buildings, flowers are cultivated under controlled temperatures and lighting, allowing each bloom to reach its full potential. However, many flowers are also grown worldwide, in climates that are perfect for their growth. In these places, stunning results are achieved through the love and passion invested in the life of a flower from the very beginning.

The Journey Begins

When the flowers are ready to be sold, they are gathered, packaged, and shipped. You might already know this, but almost all of the world’s flowers pass through the flower auction in Aalsmeer, the largest of its kind. This auction is a world in itself, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, entirely dedicated to flowers.

First, the different types of flowers are separated and stored in cold rooms. Here, potential buyers have the opportunity to walk through the stock and decide what catches their eye. After this, the flowers are auctioned off and sold to the highest bidder. From there, the flowers are shipped around the globe—but the ones we’re following stay in the Netherlands, where we transform them into a stunning final product.

The Creation of the Bouquet

Once purchased, a selection is made to determine which flowers look best in which bouquet. Only the highest-quality flowers pass through the selection process of our master florist. Once selected, the flowers are arranged into bouquets, ready to brighten your day.

A Flower’s Journey in Summary

To summarize, the flowers we use are grown all over the world. They all come together at the flower auction in Aalsmeer, where they are sold to the highest bidder. From there, they’re handed over to our master florist, who ensures each flower is showcased at its best in our beautiful bouquets.

So, the bouquet on your table has likely made a world tour before arriving to bring joy to your home!
