Autumn is when Dutch flowers get interesting. The pastels are gone and what is left has weight: rust, burgundy, ochre, and stems thick enough to hold their own shape. Ours are tied by hand in Amsterdam from what came in that morning.

Which flowers bloom in autumn?

Dahlia, chrysanthemum, sunflower, hydrangea, aster and celosia. Those six run from September into November, and all of them come from Dutch growers rather than a cargo hold.

Dahlia is the one that defines the season, because no two heads are the same and the colour range runs from cream to almost black. Chrysanthemum is unfairly written off as a graveyard flower, when the modern varieties are among the longest lasting stems you can buy. Hydrangea dries on the stem in autumn, so it slowly turns from fresh to everlasting while it stands there.

Autumn arrangement or bouquet?

An arrangement sits in foam or moss, holds its shape, and works as a centrepiece for a table you have already set. Autumn suits it, because the heavier stems and berried branches need something to sit in.

A bouquet is the better gift. It arrives wrapped, the recipient picks the vase, and the stems stay in water from the first minute. If you are sending rather than styling, send a bouquet.

Royal Fall Fairytale and Fifth Avenue Fall Dream are the deep ones, burgundy and bronze. Blushing Fall Flowers and Pink Autumn Glow keep the warmth but stay soft, which suits a lighter room. Fall in the City is the graphic one, built on shape rather than colour.

Ordering and delivery

We deliver Monday to Friday in the Netherlands, Flanders and Brussels. Orders placed before 09:00 arrive the same day. Shipping is EUR 7,00 in the Netherlands and we drop it from EUR 50. In Flanders and Brussels it is EUR 9,95, dropped from EUR 75.

At weekends our own couriers take over and the cut-off moves to 10:00. Around Amsterdam and Utrecht we charge nothing, elsewhere in the Randstad it is EUR 9,95. Every bouquet carries a handwritten card. See also our most ordered bouquets.
